AZ Sint Maarten – Mechelen

The Sint Maarten Hospital organised an architectural design competition for its new hospital, combining 3 campuses into one. VK Architects won this contest with a more than impressive design. The design shows a human scale hospital that radiates simplicity and serenity – a solid building with a unique blind that functions as a fragile skin, which highlights the vulnerability of the site.

The challenge

The architects insisted on a white aggregate that offers a glassy look after the wall panels are polished.

What we did

One of our “classics” has proven to be an excellent white marble for use in architectural concrete. Throughout several decades Norwegian White has been used in numerous projects. The proven continuity in both colour and quality was decisive in the choice of aggregate.
